Cardrewards Network is going to break down each of the rewards programs and give you the best choice for each program out there.

Cash Back Rewards

When it comes to cash back rewards, consumers agree heavily on the Discover® More card. The interest rate is as low as 11.9%, there is no annual fee, and cardholders can earn 5% cash back on selected categories that can change. If consumers shop via Discover’s online mall there are cash back rebates anywhere from 5-20%.

Compare all Cash Back Rewards Cards

Airline Rewards

There are 2 cards offered by Discover® that stand out for travel rewards. The Escape by Discover® Card and the Miles by Discover® Card. Both cards have bonus miles, no restrictions or blackout dates, and no annual fee ($60 for the Escape card). Something you won’t find with most American Express airlines cards. Cardholders can also earn double miles on select purchases.

Compare all Miles Rewards Credit Cards

Gas Rewards Credit Cards

The Chase Freedom(SM) card and the TrueEarnings(R) Card from Costco and American Express feature cash back on gas purchases. Both cards offer a 3% cash back rewards on gas purchases. Amex has a cap on 3% cash back on gas of up to $3,000, 1% cash back thereafter. Both cards have no annual fee, and competive interest rates.

Compare all Gas Rewards Credit Cards

When comparing the best rewards credit cards, Discover® is the leader in interest rates, annual fees and bonus rewards. The pioneer in rewards cards (American Express) has fallen below, offering higher interest rates, annual fees and caps on cash back rewards. As always, compare the best rewards cards, and read the fine print before you submit that application.

As far as gas credit cards go, it is better to choose a card that doesn’t limit you to one gas station, plus gives you the opportunity to earn rewards on other purchases. Gas specific credit cards, are usually only good for that gas station, and carry annual fees and higher interest rates.

There are Texaco gas cards, Chevron gas cards, Mobile, BP, Exxon and the list goes on. But do you want to be driving all over town to use the card that matches the gas station.

The problem with gas credit cards that bear their own logo on them, is they usually don’t offer any rewards at another gas station or you can’t use them at any other gas stations. What is the point of saving money on gas purchases, if you have to drive out of your way to use them.

The best gas rewards credit cards, are usually offered by the bigger banks, because they don’t limit the rewards to a specific gas station. Rewards are good at BP, Mobile, Exxon, Texaco, Hess, or wherever you fill up your tank. In addition, most major gas rewards cards offered by the bigger banks like Discover, Chase, Citi etc have flexibility in mind, so you can earn rebates on all other purchases as well.

If you choose to apply for a card like the chevron/texaco card, or BPCard, or any of the other local gas cards, look at the terms and flexibility of the card before you turn in that application, you might be better off with a major rewards card for gas purchases.
