What Does the Imagine Visa $0 Application Fee Mean?

The Imagine Visa mail offer advertises a $0 application fee. In simple terms, the offer does not charge an application fee for submitting the application.

This is a statement about the application process, not a statement that the credit card itself has no fees. Once an account is opened, the applicable pricing information determines the annual fee, maintenance fee, interest charges and other potential costs.

Quick answer: The advertised $0 application fee means there is no application fee under the offer. It does not mean there are no costs associated with the account after approval.

Is the $0 Application Fee the Same as a $0 Security Deposit?

No. They are two different things, although the Imagine mail offer advertises both.

Offer Feature What It Means
$0 application fee No application fee is charged under the advertised offer.
$0 security deposit No cash security deposit is required under the advertised offer.
Annual fee A separate account fee that may apply depending on the specific offer.
Account maintenance fee A separate fee that may apply after the applicable introductory period.

The $0 application fee and $0 security deposit address two different potential upfront costs. Neither one eliminates the other fees that may apply to an Imagine account.

Does $0 Application Fee Mean the Imagine Visa Is Free?

No. The $0 application fee only means that the application itself does not have an application charge under the advertised offer.

The November 2025 Pricing Information Addendum lists several possible charges associated with the account. These include annual fees, an account maintenance fee, an additional card fee if applicable, balance transfer fees, cash advance fees, foreign transaction fees, late payment fees, returned payment fees and paper statement fees.

The pricing terms that apply to a particular cardholder depend on the specific offer. The $0 application fee should therefore be considered one part of the overall pricing picture.

What Fees May Apply After You Open the Account?

The November 2025 pricing information lists the following examples of potential charges:

Possible Charge Example Pricing Information
Annual fee Varies based on the listed initial credit limit and applicable offer
Account maintenance fee $180 annually, billed at $15 per month, with the listed first 12-month waiver
Additional card fee $19 one time, if applicable
Balance transfer 3% of the amount transferred
Cash advance $5 or 5% of the amount, whichever is greater
Foreign transaction 3% of each transaction amount in U.S. dollars
Late payment Up to $41
Returned payment Up to $41
Paper statement $2 monthly when paper statements are received

These are examples from the November 2025 Pricing Information Addendum. They are not a guarantee that every Imagine Visa account has exactly the same fees or terms.

What About the Annual Fee?

The annual fee is separate from the application fee. The pricing information lists different first-year annual fees for several example initial credit limits.

Example Initial Credit Limit First-Year Annual Fee Annual Fee After First Year
$1,000 $175 $49
$700 $175 $49
$500 $125 $49
$400 $99 $49

These figures come from the November 2025 Pricing Information Addendum and illustrate why a $0 application fee should not be confused with a $0-cost credit card.

What Is the Account Maintenance Fee?

The pricing information lists an account maintenance fee of $180 annually, billed at $15 per month. The listed fee is not charged during the first 12 months the account is open.

This is separate from the annual fee and has nothing to do with the $0 application fee. If the maintenance fee applies to your account, it is an ongoing account charge rather than a fee for submitting an application.

Does Applying Cost Anything Upfront?

Under the advertised offer, there is no application fee and no security deposit. Those are two costs that the mail offer specifically identifies as $0.

However, an annual fee can still affect the account's available credit. The November 2025 pricing information states that the annual fee is assessed before the card is used and reduces initial available credit.

For example, the pricing information lists a $175 first-year annual fee for example $1,000 and $700 initial credit limits. Under those examples, approximately $825 would be available from a $1,000 limit and approximately $525 from a $700 limit after the annual fee.

Important distinction

You can have a $0 application fee and $0 security deposit while still having an annual fee that reduces your initial available credit.

Does the $0 Application Fee Guarantee Approval?

No. A $0 application fee only describes the cost of submitting the application. It does not guarantee that an application will be approved.

This is particularly important with a mailed prequalified offer. Being prequalified means you were selected based on information used in a prescreening process. The final application remains subject to the issuer's eligibility and approval process.

Does $0 Application Fee Mean There Is No Credit Check?

The application fee and the credit-review process are separate issues. A $0 application fee does not mean that an application is automatically approved or that no credit information will be considered.

If you received a prequalified mail offer, the prescreening that generated the offer should also not be confused with final application review.

What Should You Check Before Applying?

The $0 application fee is straightforward, but the rest of the pricing deserves a closer look. Before accepting an offer, review:

  • The credit limit offered to you.
  • The first-year annual fee.
  • The annual fee after the first year.
  • The account maintenance fee and when it begins.
  • The purchase APR and other applicable APRs.
  • Balance transfer and cash advance fees.
  • Foreign transaction fees.
  • Late-payment and returned-payment fees.
  • Any additional card or paper statement fees that may apply.
  • The offer expiration date and acceptance instructions.

Bottom Line

The Imagine Visa's advertised $0 application fee means you do not pay an application fee under the offer. The mailer also advertises a $0 security deposit, so those two particular upfront charges are not required under the advertised offer.

That does not make the account free. The November 2025 Pricing Information Addendum lists annual fees, an account maintenance fee and other potential charges, along with a 36% APR for purchases, balance transfers and cash advances in the listed pricing examples.

The terms that apply to you depend on your specific Imagine offer. Review the pricing information and Cardholder Agreement associated with your offer before accepting the account.
